WHEN does the Cleaner Air Space open?
When the New Denver AQI is over 150, we aim to open from noon – 3pm, provided someone is available to host.
HOW do I know if it is open today?
Check the ‘TODAY’ notice at the top of this page. AQI over 150 does not automatically mean the church is open. We will also post on our Facebook page when the Cleaner Air Space is open.
WHERE is it?
St Stephen’s Anglican Church, New Denver – the little white church on the corner of 7th Ave & Hwy 6, beside the school.
WHAT makes the air cleaner?
Two HEPA air purifiers operate inside the church to remove fine particles from wildfire smoke.
WHY is the door closed if you are open?
We keep exterior doors closed as much as possible to keep smoke outside. If the status above says we’re open, and/or the “WELCOME” sandwich board is out front, then come on in.
WHAT can I do while I’m there?
Read, work quietly, pray, visit, bring a game or puzzle… or simply sit and breathe cleaner air. The atmosphere is quiet, informal, and welcoming. Unfortunately we do not have WiFi.
DO I need to register or pay?
No. It’s free and there’s no registration. Just come in.
IS this a church service or program?
No. This is simply a cleaner air space being offered to the community. There’s no expectation that you participate in any religious activity.
